In Firefox, the printer uses different settings than those set up using the device setup in the control panel. Windows 7.
When printing a document in Firefox (like an email message using gmail), Firefox uses different printer settings than the default settings in Windows. For example, it is set to use the photo paper in the main tray instead of letter-sized paper. This is all under the same "general everyday setting" for printing that we set up to use letter paper from the main tray from the control panel. This computer uses Windows 7.

Firefox doesn't use the system default settings for printing - beyond first use. Firefox saves user settings and uses those as the defaults for the future printing jobs down via Firefox.
Last used settings are the new Default setting in Firefox. The settings hold until the user changes them again. There is a pref to disable that "feature" - print.save_print_settings
When you initiate printing, either by the {Ctrl + P} keyboard command or via the "Print" menu item, look at the Printer which is selected and then open Preferences for that printer to view the preferences settings. Change what needs to be changed and then proceed with the OK button.

Sounds like your having printer driver issues. I never had that problem with W7 and FF of past and now with W10 it remember the last printer to print to.
