How do I fix the fact that "Left clicking an embedded link no longer works"?
I always used FireFox. After the update, I have the following problem: I used to be able to open an embedded link on a webpage by left clicking it and that link would open in a new tab. Now left clicking the embedded link causes a new tab to momentarily open showing the correct web address but immediately close and return the cursor over the embedded link. If I can’t figure out what the embedded link is, I have no way off manually typing in the web address and therefore no way of getting to that website. How do I fix my problem?

Does it make any difference if you right-click > Open Link in New Tab instead of left-clicking??
Do you run any add-ons that block popup windows? Some of them are a little extreme in their zeal to close new windows and tabs...
You can view, disable, and often remove unwanted or unknown extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
- type or paste about:addons in the address bar and press Enter/Return
In the left column of the Add-ons page, click Extensions.
Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side. Any extensions Firefox installs for built-in features are hidden from this page, so everything listed here is your choice (and your responsibility) to manage. Anything that seems to target pop-ups? Anything suspicious or that you just do not remember installing or why? If in doubt, disable (or remove).
Any improvement?
Firefox should show the link (href attribute) at the bottom of the Firefox window if you hover a link. There is also "Copy Link Location" in the right-click context menu.
Note that some Google services process externals links and check them via Google Safe Browsing before allowing to open the link.
If a new tab opens for a short time then it is likely that some extension in interferinf like posted above.
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
- hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
- press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
- press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the Cache and remove the Cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).
"Remove the Cookies" from websites that cause problems:
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data -> Manage Data
"Clear the Cache":
- Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security
Cookies and Site Data -> Clear Data -> Cached Web Content: Clear
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is is causing the problem.
- switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
