Hi, I have a question. Is it possible add a new feature to Firefox Sync that will allow user to synchronize only selected passwords? For example in Setting->Synchronize a new checkbox will appear on the list of elements to synchronize or it'll appear as a "subcheckbox" after user clicks "logins and passwords". After that user will be able to click a checkbox for every password separately.

You can possibly use more than one profile and only place the logins you want to sync in a second profile and connect that profile to Sync. If you would want to sync more than logins then you would have to copy other files to this profile.

You can copy certain files with Firefox closed to the another profile to transfer specific personal data.

  • bookmarks and history: places.sqlite
  • favicons: favicons.sqlite
  • bookmark backups: compressed .jsonlz4 JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder
  • cookies.sqlite for the Cookies
  • formhistory.sqlite for saved autocomplete Form Data
  • logins.json (encrypted logins;32+) and key4.db (decryption key;58+) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager
key3.db support ended in 73+; to use key3.db in 58-72, make sure to remove key4.db
  • cert9.db (58+) for (intermediate) certificates stored in the Certificate Manager
  • persdict.dat for words added to the spell checker dictionary
  • permissions.sqlite for Permissions and possibly content-prefs.sqlite for other website specific data (Site Preferences)
  • sessionstore.jsonlz4 for open tabs and pinned tabs (see also the sessionstore-backups folder)

Thanks for your answer. That solution probably will do the work but it looks like it's a not-easy workaround. I will be happy if my proposition could be placed as a "low-priority feature" and one day I will be able to use it.

I think you have a good idea. But with the Sync feature, its an All or Nothing methodology.

As for me, I have been nagging Mozilla to change the name of Sync to Backup ! But them young brainiacs live in another world  :-)

For now, I strongly suggest to use a password manager that is separate from FF because of the ol' Dont Put All The Eggs in One Basket, strategy.

I use KeePass and it has been a life saver on so many occassions.

Incidentally, there is also a backup of your passwords in MSEdge.

And as Cor-el has eluded above, you can clone FF profiles and preserve them as Back up copies, each with it own copy of the PW library.

Keep in mind that Sync isn't designed to be used as a backup, but is meant to be used to sync some personal data between connected devices.
