I fully agree. Makes me wish I would have just switched to chrome many years ago when firefox stated copying them.

For example, some websites are now showing up with hefty vertical borders ... and particularly annoying for me is the leading (i.e. vertical spacing) on the dropdowns, especially Bookmarks which I use frequently.

Could you give an example and/or share a screenshot of vertical borders on website?

Menu Item Spacing

I can give you a quick short-term workaround, but a more durable solution will require more work.

Temporary Fix

For testing purposes, there is a preference to switch between new style and old style menus. It helps with the spacing, but might be a tad bit glitchy:

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.

(2) In the search box in the page, type or paste browser.proton.contextmenus.enabled and pause while the list is filtered

(3) Double-click the preference to switch between true (new style) and false (old style)

In my test, the Bookmarks menu on the optional top Menu Bar was messed up in the existing window, but looked okay in a new window.

Longer Term Community Workaround

This involves setting up a userChrome.css file. The full instructions are in the following thread: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1337841

I'm sure we'll refine that during the course of the month so when the temporary preference is eventually removed, it will be airtight.

I can zoom in and more or less get rid of them, but that means I have to do a lot more scrolling down to read the resulting (larger) text.

But I can live with that problem, as it only seems to occur on the occasional site, given that you've sorted the bookmarks issue for me!

The empty areas along the left and right sides? I think it is common for sites not to use the full width of the browser window because when lines get too long, it is fatiguing to read them. That said, there might be an add-on to blow out those side margins if you need to fit more in.

I'm not a big fan of the FF89 look either - but I use the Guardian site quite a lot, and it looks the same to me on FF89 as it did on previous versions, and indeed as it does on Edge.

Looking at the CSS code for the site, the Guardian's designers have intentionally made it so that those margins appear at the left and right edge. (I find many other sites actually add more white space than the Guardian does!)

Firefox has gone from the best browser to the "Worst". All the good stuff about is gone. They've screwed up bookmarking. The dialog boxes are so big that they cover up most of the content on small screens. The new look is awful. And a lot of other mess. I've been with Firefox since they first came out but I can't take anymore of the screw-ups. I'm jumping ship. All the good stuff about it is gone. And so am I. Goodbye Firefox, Hello Microsoft Edge.
