Firefox prevents me from zipping a folder and download it within google drive.

This is regardless my cookies settings as explained here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../1312393 and regardless enhanced protection settings as explained here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/que.../1305970#answer-1353590.

I will now turn to using google chrome.

It works for me. Most likely something is being blocked. Do you get the option to download and then nothing happens? Can you post a screenshot of how far you get?

Try downloading another copy of Firefox and run it from the folder. Do not sign into your Firefox account and see if you have the same issue.
