cannot set up latest 64 bit thunderbird to Yahoo IMAP with OAUTH2
I cannot setup thunderbird 91.7.0 - 64 bit to yahoo with imap and oauth2. I checked various articles to make sure I use the correct parms. Even tried using the auto parms thunderbird provides which seem to be correct. I go thru the process of entering my password and clicked AGREE to "I agree to the Yahoo OpenID Oauth terms". Then I get the error. I made sure no yahoo.com cookies. I made sure no stored yahoo passwords.
Am I missing something? Hopefully something simple. Bob

Resolved the problem by booting Windows 11 into safe mode. Then I easily connected to my gmail and yahoo mail using oauth2.

oAuth uses cookies in Thunderbird. while they default to on, some interfering software that purports to be "protecting you" turn that off. So check preferences that cookies are enabled
BTW as you do not say when the actual error is, I am just pointing to the most common issue.
Cookies setting set to "Always". I deleted the ones for Yahoo.com then tried to connect.
The actual error occurs after the "Accept" I noted above. It is: "Authentication error when connecting to server imap.mail.yahoo.com."
I am using: imap.mail.yahoo.com 993 SSL/TLS OAUTH2
smtp.mail.yahoo.com 465 SSL/TLS OAUTH2
Note I spun up a windows 10 virtual machine and installed a new copy of Thunderbird and was able to connect to Yahoo mail and gmail just fine with oauth2.
One key difference is that my main PC is running Windows 11. Any known issues with windows 11?
Bob
On Windows 11 Exit Thunderbird.
Access the Firewall - this might be the default Firewall provided by Windows 11 or it might be controlled by your Anti-Virus Product.
Thunderbird must be in the list of allowed programs.
I tried to setup Yahoo mail and Gmail with the firewall turned off. No joy.
I had been using Thunderbird on Windows 11 just fine for several weeks. It is only when I tried to set up connections to both using OAUTH2 that I have the problem. Bob

Many thanks for feedback. Safe Mode with Networking would have completely disabled the Anti-Virus and was running with all the basics. Good to hear all is now ok
I am experiencing a similar problem with both my yahoo and gmail emails on Thunderbird 91.7 on Mac Monterey 12.3. I checked several times all my outgoing settings and could not spot anything wrong. Is there any solution for Mac Users? Thank you

Email is a set of platform independent protocols. Solutions for windows apply equally to mac and Linux.
In the case of Gmail, checking the authentication method is oAth2.0 and that cookies are enabled is a good starting point as we are only weeks away from Google refusing all other authentication methods.

If the 'Chosen Solution' did not help you, then I would advise you create a new question as any comments put in this question are sent to the person who created the question and as they are using Windows 11, they may not be able to assist or may not appreciate getting a load of emails that is not relevant to them.
