Hi,

No matter what I do, a google dialogue box encouraging me to use google for password management, pops up every time I go to a site, new or existant.

I've gone into my google account to disable such requests, and, indeed, otherwise use google for nothing....not even search............but they keep coming anyway.

am using ubuntu 20.04, and no other utility or code is giving me this trouble.

I want to stop this dialogue box and eliminate any code in firefox or ubuntu which supports it.....as I have no idea why this box showed up....one day it just started.

Many thanks!

oliver

boy, i am sorry to hear that.

well, Ill tell you what. I am now active non-purchaser of products from anyone whose website prompts me for that.

that may sound trivial to some, but what this kind of thing represents is a lot more. indeed, insofar as the google settings for this have no effect, it is nothing but spitting in the faces of people and telling them it is raining.

thanks for the 411....I guess :-(

Hi

This is a feature of the website that you are using, a service that they are using from Google, not a feature of Firefox.

thansk, but i don't understand.

it happens on virtually every website. are you saying that the vast majority of web sites have asked google to do this?

DING DING DING!  ;-) On eBay, IT resume sites, almost everywhere. What's interesting is that I don't see it in Edge browser. i went to a few of the same site with Edge and no Use Google Login.

Mark it as resolved and have a nice day. ;-)

one more thing, please.

I just tried some of the same sites in the version of, ironic as it is, google chrome that comes with ubuntu.

no such password offers are being made.

I still, then, do not understand this whole thing.

i don't have all the ad killers and other strict security settings in this chrome version as I do in firefox, as I don't use it but rarely when some site does not resolve well in firefox....but sure enough I am not seeing any such google offer.

if this is coming via the site webmasters themselves, why, please, do I not see this in chrome?

thanks.

Are you logged in to a Google account on Chrome ? It is quite possible that you only see this on non-chrome browsers.

thanks.

great question, but, "no", I am not logged in on chrome...ubuntu calls it "chromium" and it is their version, albeit based on the chrome engine..................just went there to check.

have also gone thru the settings and see nothing that would automatically log me into google just by invoking chromium, but especially if I am not logged in.

also, at risk of repeating, and as I suspect you know, google has a setting that supposedly toggles off its offer to remember passwords and various sites around the web, when I casted about looking for an answer, said that to turn this dialogue box off, to to "that" setting on google, via one's account and toggle it......which i repeatedly did, including rebooting both ubuntu and firefox.

i think google is capable of anything, but I also find it hard to understand, anyway, that so many sites wouold have just signed on to agree to allow google to automatically pester people.

meaning not logged into google.com just bcause of a browser based on the chrome engine....and I rarely log on to google, anyway....do not use them, permit them to store this and that...no ads, no nothing.
