Someone else asked the same question a while back but the answer doesn't work for me.

The previous answer: 1. Make sure you have "Ask to save logins and passwords for websites" checked in your browser. To check that, Open Menu->Options->Privacy & Security->Forms & Passwords 2. If the above check box is checked, then whenever you enter username & password in any website Firefox will ask you to save username & password 3. Click on Don't Save. So Firefox will save the user name in form data. 4. When next time you open that website and click on user name it will show you the list of entries(If you used multiple use names on same site else will show only one user name) available for that filed.

I get no list of user names.

The Firefox Password Manager ("Ask to save logins and passwords for websites" is enabled) can only store both username and password. The username saved in the password manager can be empty, but the password is mandatory, so If you only want to store the username then you can't use the password manager, you need to save the username as saved form data or look for another password manager or form fill extension on the Add-ons website.

If you have saved a password for a site but there is no username, you can click the Edit button, place the mouse pointer in the username box and enter the username. You can copy a password or username and click the button Create New Login at the bottom of the left panel.

Thanks, cor-el. I am now exploring form-fill add-ons. I previously tried text expander add-ons — for typing a 2 or 3 letter key combo that expands out to the full username — but couldn't find a simple one that expanded correctly in Firefox. Simplicity is key, as there is just one website where I want to save the username and NOT the password.

Thanks also, Terry. I don't want to save the site's password, though, only the username.

You can create a login block exception for a website to prevent Firefox from asking to store the login.

Thanks again, co-rel. As far as I can see, exceptions are all-or-nothing. I can block both my login and my password but not simply my password alone. Am I missing something?

My point is that you can use the block exception to avoid interference with the password manager when you want to use a form fill extension for the username.
