For several months Thunderbird has random events of being very very very slow (win10)
Most of the time Thunderbird is very slow, taking minutes to log in, minutes to download tiny messages, but sometimes is quick. Sometimes Thunderbird complains the password is wrong, but after three retries it accepts the password. Only occasionally it is quick as I'd expect. This has been happening for several months. I had hopes Thunderbird would find and fix the issue without challenge, but as the issue continues I am now raising it formally.

Please start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode
Does the behavior change?
This is not a practical test for this issue. The reason is sometimes Thunderbird works okay. The computer would have to be started in safe mode day after day for ten days or more to draw a statistically significant conclusion. Please find another way to move toward a diagnosis.

Which antivirus software do you use? Do you have RSS feeds or newsgroups? How many calendars with repeating events? Do you have Windows Integrated Search enableed at Tools|Settings|General|System Integration|Allow Windows Search ?
Windows Defender No RSS or Newsgroups Yahoo calendar No idea what means: Windows Integrated Search at Tools|Settings|General|System Integration|Allow Windows Search
(correction)
Settings > General > System Integration > Allow Windows Search ... is unchecked?
Had to ask the web what you are talking about. You did not say "Thunderbird Settings". System Integration, no boxes checked.
