Word documents attachments are received with ATT00427.dat (application/octet-stream) or .doc with (application/octet-stream). PDF attached files arrive with .pdf (application/octet-stream). My copy of my sent email has the same attachment extensions.

Firefox doesn't do email, it's a web browser.

If you are using Firefox to access web mail, you need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.
