Firefox crashes with no warning & no error message every time I close aol mail - after I actually open one of my e-mails & read it & then "x" to close it. This has been going on for a while & I hate to even check my e-mail anymore because I know that this is going to happen. There are no recently submitted crash reports in my about:crashes.

When I have maybe 5 or 6 tabs open, and I am done with my AOL mail tab and close it ONLY, the entire window with all of my pages close out. My system is set to recover the last tabs I had open, but when I reopen Firefox (I have to manually, the system does not even restart it), everything is gone. I tried opening AOL mail in another separate window, and this still happens (when I close out the AOL page only). I checked my updates and Firefox is the newest. I run both my security software programs 2 times per day, along with STOPzilla. It clears cookies and I have never had an issue until this past week. I have not downloaded anything new. All is fine as long as I do not open AOL mail. Thinking this was an AOL issue, I contacted them, and they assure me that it must be my issue (of course). I then removed and deleted the Firefox program and re-downloaded it....still no help. I am using the latest AOL mail, and cannot help but wonder if there is something in that which causes me to lose everything. It's frustrating because none of my tabs are kept, even though I have it set to caution me before the Firefox window is closed, and remember my tabs for "next time

This is not a fix....but, it DOES work as a "work-a-round" for the problem. Change your settings in Firefox to NOT open a new tab each time you read new aol mail. To do this, go to Tools- Options- Tabs. Then DESELECT, "open new window in new tab instead". This will have Firefox now open each new email you read in a new window and NOT a new tab. Then, you CAN close out of each window (instead of shutting down a tab, which caused Firefox to crash). It will NOT crash when you close down each window.......hope this helps until someone gets a FIX for this problem......

That "work-a-round" does not help me at all. I already have my AOL webmail open each email in a separate window. Closing that one email even though it is in a separate window still shuts down the entire browser without warning or being able to recover the tabs or other windows I had open.

I've had the same thing happen with Internet Explorer; both Internet Explorer and Firefox have been on a PC. I have not yet had it happen with Google Chrome on my Mac notebook.

Here's your fix: Use Internet Explorer [gasp!!!] Seriously, everyone, I hate to admit it, but I use IE almost exclusively for the sole purpose of checking my AOL email account. Otherwise, I use Firefox for everything. I used to think it had something to do with a couple different spyware/adware programs I had installed but not anymore. Now that I recently have built a desktop tower and brand new laptop without anything else installed (currently using), I still get the crashes. Sometimes you get lucky and it doesn't crash but usually its a guarantee. It has nothing to do with what version Firefox you are running. For me, it just started happening like that a couple years ago and been like that since. I keep hoping it goes away with every Firefox upgrade but it persists. I have never had it crash in IE but I see that others have experienced that. I can't remember it was happening on my XP desktop at all, but it certainly happens on my Vista laptop, 7 laptop, and 7 desktop.
