Firefox 4 seems good, but a major problem is that the Menu bar, the Tab bar and the Navigation bar each has a an own row at the top left in the window, with mainly two effects:

  1. Lots of wasted space at top right
  2. The actual web window being very vertically compressed, so if you have a laptop or wide-screen for another reason, then there isn't really much space left for browsing.

The add-on Classic Compact does solve that problem, but with the adverse effect of the bars becoming rather small and the buttons rather hard to hit. A better solution would be to show the Menu bar and the Navigation bar on the same level, but how to achieve this?

By default on Win7, Firefox 4.0 doesn't even display the Menu bar - the orange Firefox button is shown. Right-click on the Menu bar and click on Menu bar in that contextual menu to deselect it. When you have the orange Firefox button showing and the Menu bar is hidden, you can access the Menu bar by hitting the Alt key.

Or, you can open the toolbar Customize mode and move Navigation bar items up to the Menu bar and then hide the Navigation bar.

Also, there's a number of compact menu extensions that deal with compacting the Menu bar down to a button that replaces the entire Menu bar and provides a drop-down menu of those menu items. Or, extensions that allow you to personalize the Firefox button menu and add menu items that aren't there, but are in the Menu bar. Using most of those types of extensions involve using Customize to move items around to suit your tastes.

Wow, I didn't there were so many ways to customize Firefox!

The open the toolbar Customize mode and move Navigation bar items up to the Menu bar and then hide the Navigation bar."'-method works just fine.
