If that setting is OK then make sure that Firefox closes properly.

That's not the problem, it seems to be an issue with the options folder. Everything is set properly with my home page. Where is the session restore option located? I can't seem to locate it.

If older sessions keep reopening then it is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

Delete sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Profile Folder

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

Thanks for the solution but it didn't work. This kind of thing shouldn't happen in the first place. I've tried giving Firefox a fair try a few times since the previous version but there are always little nagging issues like this that make me return to Internet Explorer. Add to this that Mozilla seems to go out of its way to make Firefox "different" just for the sake of it. The only reason I'm sticking with Firefox now is for the excellent Adblock Plus extension. Internet Explorer just doesn't have one that works so well.

When I upgrade to Windows 7 I'll be able to run Internet Explorer 9 which, for all the hype surrounding Firefox, is a competent product.

I have Firefox set to open a blank page when it starts, and Google is my home page, but it constantly opens the last page visited.

I have seen the page about session restore at: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Session%20Restore?s=opens+last+page&as=s#w_configuring-session-restore

I have changed the browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash to set it to false. This however makes no difference.

As far as I can see, I have done everything to have Firefox open with a blank page, but it is ignoring my preference setting on this.

I have (and always did have) my firefox set to open to a specific homepage. This problem just began last night-- I have had the new firefox for a few days now. I deleted sessionstore.bak. I even deleted prefs.js. Still doesn't fix it. I tried deleting sessionstore.js. It just keeps re-creating itself.

Looking over the endless complaints in support.mozilla.com it's no wonder why Firefox' once-newsworthy growth has stalled. Users try it, find issue after issue wrong with it, and then go elsewhere. Chrome and the resurgent Internet Explorer are the only serious alternatives left.

No wonder Mozilla seems poised to rush Firefox 5 out the door!
