Search bar will not let me choose the default search engine, defaults to Yahoo.

Yahoo has taken over the search bar. I have removed Yahoo from the drop down using manage search engine and Google is the first on the list. When I restart Yahoo shows up again as default even though Google is still at the top of the list. I prefer Google and am very annoyed by the fact that Yahoo has taken over.
