I've been using Firefox Sync for some time and am generally quite happy with it, but there is one annoyance: when I delete a bookmark on one computer, the bookmark is still present on other computers, even after fully syncing. The deleted bookmarks get moved to the end of the folder they were in prior to deletion.

As background about my use case: I have a bookmark folder where I add articles, blog posts etc. that I plan to read later. When I have read them I delete the bookmarks. But if I read an article on my work machine, say, and delete the bookmark, the bookmark will not go away on my home machine.

Is there anything I can do to make deletions on one synced machine reliably propagate to all synced machines?

Perchance, is that folder in the Unsorted Bookmarks folder, at the bottom of the bookmarks display?

No. I don't have anything in my Unsorted Bookmarks folder.

It can take some time before deleted bookmarks are removed from other synced computers, especially if the bookmarks originate from another computer.

I assume that you wouldn't appreciate it if someone else would be able to remove your bookmarks?
