I am not Private Browsing. The 'Clear Passwords on Exit' box is NOT checked...Heck the darn thing won't save passwords if I log out of a website and log back in without exiting Ff. This is not a problem with website that don't allow password saving, it is a problem with EVERY WEBSITE I go to, including EVERY website I used to have passwords saved. When I check Tools, Options, Security, Saved Passwords, it's blank even right after press 'Save Password for this Website."

What Have You Done to My Password Manager with this Alleged Upgrade??????????

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?

There is a difference between remembering the name and password in the Password Manager and a "remember me" check box on a web page to log you in automatically. The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and that is send to the server. If that "remember me" cookie is removed or gets corrupted or is not send to the server then the server won't remember you anymore and you need to sign in once again.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

It is possible that there is a problem with the key3.db and signons.sqlite files that store the encrypted names and passwords in Firefox.
Rename the key3.db and signons.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder.
You can add .old to the file names (key3.db.old and signons.sqlite.old) or move them to another folder to make it possible to undo the action.
You need to set a new Master Password after renaming or deleting key3.db and all currently saved passwords are lost.
If that has worked then you can remove the renamed files that are no longer needed.

Neither works. It doesn't remember passwords if I log out of a website and try to log back in, whether I restart Ff or not.

This new "upgrade," 15.0.1 sucks in the password department!!!

Does Firefox store any cookies from those sites?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing cookies doesn't work then it is possible that the file cookies.sqlite that stores the cookies is corrupted.

Rename (or delete) cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and delete other present cookie files like cookies.sqlite-journal in the Firefox Profile Folder in case the file cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Cookies (Removing cookies)

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
Note that a reset may not be a good idea in this case because a reset migrates cookies.

See "Creating a profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

OK, I opened Ff in Safe Mode. I clicked on Tools, Add ons, Extensions: Saw: Abine (disabled) Adobe DLM (disabled) Delicious Bookmarks (disabled) FB Purity (disabled) Java Quick Starter (disabled) Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant (disabled) Password Exporter (disabled) PDF Download (disabled) PriceBlink (disabled) RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin (disabled)

I clicked on Tools, Add Ons, Appearance Saw: Default 15.0.1 (disabled)

I'd already renamed cookies.sqlite to cookiesOLD.sqlite. There is no file called Cookies.sqlite-journal in G;[this is my thumbdrive]/FirefoxPortable/Data/profile.

I don't know how to create a new profile.

Reset? What's that?

I opened the email website (netaddress.com) where I have used the Password Manager FOR YEARS, I entered the user name and password, the window box "Remember Password?" opened and I clicked on it [as usual], the "enter master password" box opened [as usual], and I entered it. I logged out of netaddress.com and opened it back up and GUESS WHAT???: NO PASSWORD! THIS IS STILL VERRRRRRRRY SUCKY! WHAT HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS "UPGRADE" TO Ff 15.0.1? IT SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

I clicked on your link to create a new profile. It was dead. I searched "create profile" and saw instructions to close firefox and open Profile Manager it said to click Start, Run and open "firefox.exe -p"

Firefox.exe-p Firefox.exe -p G:/FirefoxPortable/FirefoxPortable.exe-p

none of these would open

G:/FirefoxPortable/FirefoxPortable.exe -p just opened firefox as usual

I rebooted the computer;

Firefox.exe-p Firefox.exe -p G:/FirefoxPortable/FirefoxPortable.exe-p

none of these would open

G:/FirefoxPortable/FirefoxPortable.exe -p just opened firefox as usual

How about some CLEAR, SIMPLE, NONTECHNICAL instructions I can understand and follow?

I am having exactly the same problem.

In order to post this reply I registered with Mozilla. Guess what! I can't even save my Mozilla password.

There is definitely a problem here.

Make sure that you do not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing mode.

  • Tools > Options > Privacy: Use custom settings for history
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use private browsing mode"

Instead of Tools > Options use:

  • Mac: Firefox > Preferences
  • Linux: Edit > Preferences
  • Windows: Firefox > Options

Press F10 if the menu bar is hidden on Windows and Linux or use "Firefox > Options/Preferences"

I'm afraid not. I'd already checked to see if I was running in InPrivate mode. I'm not. I cannot see any reason why my passwords should not be saved; and they're not.

I occasionally use IE7. No problem with saving passwords there. So, probably not a generic Windows problem; rather a Firefox issue.

If you see passwords in the Password Manager (Tools > Options > Security: Passwords > "Saved Passwords") then you can save the existing passwords with the Password Exporter extension before removing the files and re-import them afterward.
