So...I checked my plugins this morning, and it said both my Java platform and my Java Deployment Toolkit needed updating. However, I click Update, and the link does not lead me to a download page. Plus, when I try to verify my Java version on the Java page, it says that I have the recommended Java installed (and so do other sites that run on Java). How do I update these things so that everything is up to date? Screenshots for further info: http://oi50.tinypic.com/15d87ly.jpg (the plugin checker status) http://oi47.tinypic.com/35jk0ub.jpg (What the "Update" link leads to) http://oi46.tinypic.com/34yz7kk.jpg (The verification)

AliceWyman -I had already downloaded and installed Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.90.5 AND Java(TM) Platform SE 7 U9 (Java Plug-in 10.9.2); and in the process I have deleted ALL other versions (in seemed to be the problem at the time); I have a 64-bit .... I have been waiting for the Plugin Check to "fix", do you have any suggestions...I don't seem to be having any problems (at least major). I'm thinking just to leave it til it does get resolved, what do you suggest???

I know I found a different page with a similiar discussion the other day-but I couldn't remember my proper login, at the time. Now I can't find that page. Appreciate all help. Thank You.

bunnygal, is this the other thread you were thinking of? Here's the last page:

It would be better if you started your own thread so that we can see your operating system but maybe I can help here. I'll assume you're on Windows.

Click Firefox button on Windows Vista or above (or Tools menu on XP) and go to Add-ons -> Plugins.

Do you see the Java (TM) Platform plugin listed and is it enabled? If it's "greyed" out (disabled) click on the Enable button, then go to the Plugin Check page at http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/ and check the status of the Java (TM) Platform Plugin.

If the Plugin Check page shows that the Java (TM) Platform plugin is outdated (or if the Firefox -> Add-ons -> Plugins panel did not list the Java Platform plugin at all):

Use this link, http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp ... and then click the download link for the Java 7 Update 10 Windows Offline (32-bit) installer, which will prompt you to save the file jre-7u10-windows-i586.exe to your computer. You can then close Firefox and run that file. OR:

You can use the other install or update methods described here:

OR, If you need more help you should start your own thread and it will include your system details, such as your operating system and installed plugins. You can use this link as a starting point: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/new

Got your notice/email yesterday, AliceWyman. Decided to look at it again; this time I downloaded the 32 bit version (I have a 64 bit computer, Windows 7). And surprise! the plugin checkup no longer shows that I need an update. I installed "Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.100.18"...so I'm not sure right now-how this differs, all I know is it says it is Updated...so I'm happy. See it is possible! :)

bunnygal, I'm glad you got it sorted out by using the 32-bit Java installer, which is what Firefox and other 32-bit browsers need.

Many people mistakenly think that they need the 64-bit Java installer because their operating system is 64-bit but that's not true! You need the 32-bit Java installer for Firefox and other 32-bit browsers, even if your Windows version is 64-bit. If you only have the 64-bit Java installed, Firefox doesn't detect it. What's worse, because of a bug, the Plugin Check page shows the error, Missing JAVA? For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Java. Please upgrade to the latest version. (screenshot) Ref: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Plugin_Check_reports_outdated_Java_has_been_disabled_when_it_is_up-to-date_or_when_Java_is_not_installed

On the "Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.100.18" that's something that's installed along with Java which isn't needed for Java to work. More on that here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Java#Java_Deployment_Toolkit_plugin

AliceWyman-Apologies, I am mistaken...I downloaded and installed "jre-7u10-windows-i586.exe"; it just shows 'Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.100.18' on the plugin check page. I am so confused. I remember something about my computer having 64 bits, but I honestly do not know what that means. Is there anything ELSE that I do need to download? All I do know, is it does not SHOW anything needs updating. For which I am happy.

I need to be clearminded when I deal with computer issues; and these haven't been my 'clearminded' days. LOL I did delete all of my old Java programs...not sure that helped or hurt. But I would say for the most part, my computer runs better than some people's that I know...to listen to them complain. And I believe it is because I do keep up with all the 'updates'.... Thanks for all your help, Alice. :)

bunny2gal,

It would really be better if you started your own thread, so that we can see your system details including all enabled plugins ... BUT, If you really need Java and you're up to it, you can try something that worked for another user:

Go to Windows Control Panel, "Uninstall a program" ("Programs and Features" if using the icon view) and uninstall all Java versions listed. Next, open Internet Explorer, go to a page that requires Java (you could try this test page) to see if that starts a Java install. Alternately, go to http://java.com/download using Internet Explorer and run the Java installer.
