For certain websites Firefox 18 will freeze for about a minute. One of the websites it does it on is GoPro.com. It will do it the first time I visit the site, then as long as the browser is open and I return to the site, it works as normal. As soon as I close the browser then open a new one and I go to GoPro's website again, it freezes. This is the same with some other websites as well.

Please make sure Adobe Flash is up to date as as soon as you land on GoPro's website that is a video that plays.

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions. If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.

To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

Java was out of date and a few others were unknown. I disabled a few and updated Java. For now it seemed to do the trick. Thanks a lot!

The same thing happens to me. I thought it was Flash that caused this problem, but now I have installed QuickJava and have blocked Flash. And still it happens.

Here's an example of a page that will cause this to happen: http://www.dagbladet.no/2013/01/27/kultur/analog_digital/datasikkerhet/java/oracle/25422277/ Lots of pages on this site will give the same result.

As the OP said, once I have visited the page it will load normally the next time I visit it.

I've got Firefox 18.0.1 I have disabled a lot of plugins. I enclose pictures showing my plugins and addons.

Ok, so after I have tried the above solution for a bit, I am still having the same issue. It will sometimes work, but most of the time it is freezing for a minute or so. What else can I try?

Thanks, Brett

Carraig042: How often does the freezing occur? Freezing occurs all the time on all browser due to the computers RAM, Hard drive, etc... Not all computers sold are perfect and will run perfectly with all program. I would just suggest ignoring if it just happens once. Thanks!

It happens just on this one site that I visit and it is just annoying. It never used to though. I visit this site on a daily basis.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

I've been having this same problem since about v14 of FF, and have investigated it extensively. It's not a Flash or Java problem; it's caused by some kind of scripting issue when a graphic (usually an embedded video) is scrolled onto the screen. If I enable NoScript the problem never manifests; but many sites then don't work correctly so I always end up disabling it.

My guess is that FF has some issue processing certain (types of?) scripts. It doesn't happen on all sites, but occurs frequently on others (e.g., huffingtonpost.com).

I really, really hope the dev team can find a solution for this soon because I've just about decided to move to Safari because of it.
