Delete the Helvetica font and all variants, like Helvetica Neue. To get to the font manager, either search for Fonts, or on the Windows 8 Start Screen, choose Control Panel, then More Settings, then Appearance and Personalization, and lastly Fonts.

If you don't have any such fonts, or that doesn't solve the problem, please answer the question I asked earlier:

  • Select the unreadable text, then right-click the selection and choose Inspect Element. In the inspector pane, click the Fonts tab. What fonts are used?

Hello,

  1. Click the ≡ Menu Button and choose Options.
  2. Click the Content icon.
  3. Click the Advanced button.
  4. Make sure "Allow pages to choose their own fonts" is checked.

Can you post a link to the page in the screenshot?

Select the unreadable text, then right-click the selection and choose Inspect Element. In the inspector pane, click the Fonts tab. What fonts are used?

Also make sure that you allow pages to choose their own colors.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Colors : [X] "Allow pages to choose their own colors, instead of my selections above"

Note that these settings affect background images.

Thank you Gingerbread for getting back, I have followed the steps you told

1. I inspected the unreadable text it was showing following under font family. And when I disabled/unchecked it from the inspect elements text changes to readable.

font: 400 13px/22px "Helvetica Neue","HelveticaNeue",Helvetica,sans-serif

2. After checking this I have deleted all the Helvetica Family from my fonts manager. I was having helvetica sereies and Helvetica Neue Series. Now it is removed. And fonts are looking fine now.

So this has solved the problem, but is there anyway I can use helvetica family again? Because my field is design related, and that font is often used in designs. Is that bug in firefox? or is there something wrong with that font famliy? Any idea?

Thank you.

In other applications, yes. You can apply a user style in Firefox that substitutes Helvetica with another font. My style uses Liberation Sans but you can replace that with Arial or some other font.

  1. Install Stylish and restart Firefox when prompted.
  2. Click the ≡ Menu Button and choose Add-ons.
  3. In the Add-ons Manager, click User Styles on the left.
  4. Click the Write New Style button at the top. Paste the following in the text box, give the style a name, then click the Save button.

@-moz-document url-prefix("http://"), url-prefix("https://") {

@font-face {
  font-family: Helvetica;
  src: local("Liberation Sans");
}

@font-face {
  font-family: "Helvetica Neue";
  src: local("Liberation Sans");
}

}

If you don't want to install an add-on, you can use the userContent.css file instead, but I don't recommend it.

On a Mac, Helvetica is included with the operating system and there shouldn't be any issues. Firefox has trouble rendering this font on Windows, perhaps because people tend to install one of the many illegal copies floating around the web.

If you want to troubleshoot the issue,

  1. Start Firefox in a new profile.
  2. If you have the same problem with the font, post a comment on the following bug report.

Wow ... that is really a detailed answer. Thanks for your time, it was is very helpful and to the point. I did the following.

1. Installed my Helvetica famliy back. 2. Installed Liberation font family from the link you posted. 3. Installed Stylish and restart Firefox. 4. Followed your steps to write a new style. 5. Restarted the firefox again( I dont know if this step was required or not but I just did it).

Now the page- https://support.google.com/richmedia/answer/2560792?hl=en

is looking fine- http://gyazo.com/384ac52441f03c4855eb15835dd7f899

while I still have the Helvetic and Helvetica Neue famlily installed.

Regarding the bug/issue of firefox

gingerbread wrote: perhaps because people tend to install one of the many illegal copies floating around the web

But don't you think that will be a bit rude of them if they have deliberately done this due to the people illegaly using that font while ignoring the masses who have purchased a legitimate liscence. Anyways, I will definetely report the issue in the bug report. Hope they will resolve it. Atleast as seen on the post there are many others who are facing the same issue.
