PLEASE withdraw FF Build 31 from both Beta download and Beta Update. It is a total disaster, and numerous parties we deal with -- 27 installs -- including my own systems, had to revert back to FF Build 30.

Nothing works...tabs do NOT close, Sessions are NOT remembered, past session opening is destroyed on screen, options do not work.

What in the world are the developers thinking about releasing Build 31 ?

Fortunately, reverting to a download of Build 30 returned most all the system back to "normal."

So far.

Update. Note with Firefox 31 the current TMP works

The Question Owner, Joe, saying down thread 24th July

OK, downloaded TMP 0.4.1.4, the current build version, not the earlier 0.4.1.4 Pre, and so far, it all works "OK" with Firefox 31...all tabs are as should be, all are session saved and "brought back alive" when the next session opens.

Firefox 31 hasn't been released! It just entered the Beta testing phase. If you don't plan on actually doing any testing and then reporting any problems that you find, don't use it! Please, stick with the release version of Firefox and leave the "testing" to those who understand how to do it.

BTW, I test the Beta versions and haven't had any particular problems with Firefox 31.0b1.

Can confirm, cannot close random tabs with FF beta 31.0b1. Have not tried to restart after update so about session restore i am not sure, just in case waiting for next update before next restart. I'm using a lot of tabs and also Tab Mix Plus 0.4.1.4.1pre.140414a1 and Tree Style Tab 0.14.2014051101 addons so it might be conflict with those.

Okay, the tab close/hung problem was caused by Tab Mix Plus, it is fixed with today's version: 0.4.1.4pre.140613a1, https://bitbucket.org/onemen/tabmixplus/commits possibly commit fbdc24f.

The Firefox 31.0 is on the Beta channel for testing since the Release is 30.0 since June 10. There is usually six to twelve Beta builds for the new version and is a way for the devs and testers to find issues and Extension conflicts before it gets to Release Candidate and Release. Would you rather Mozilla not do any real testing before a Release?.

The first couple of Beta's can sometime have issues however in this case it may be due to some Extensions, especially if using a older version of it. If I recall extensions like TMP, colorful tabs, AIOS are a few that has had issues for some users with the Firefox 30.0 Release and 31.0b1 on Beta channel.

If you use Tab Mix Plus, Firefox 31 is incompatible. it will hide your tabs. Firefox continues to screw things up for people who use their browser and computers to work online. Tab Mix Plus is used by a lot of people, and no warning. Ever since Firefox 29, Mozilla cares more about competing with Google and less with filling the needs of most users. Disabling Tab Mix didn't help. The problem is somewhere else. I finally downgraded back to 30. Please note the date that I am typing this is July 23, 2014. it is after the final release of FireFox 31. Disabling Tab Mix Plus did not fix the problem, going back to FF 30 did fix it.

Well, as of July 23, 2014 the "Big Question" remains:

Does Tab Mix Plus 0.4.1.4pre.140613a1 work OK or acceptably well with Firefox 31 Windows ?

or should we defer for now from updating FF 30 to 31 UNTIL a Tab Mix Plus pre-Build is "really certified" to work properly with FF 31 ?

Having had tremendous Tab Mix Problems when we went from FF 29 to 31 back in early June 2014 -- but "solved" by returning to and currently still using FF Build 30 Windows with 0.4.1.4pre.140613a1...

It's FAR better to ask or in this case re-ask as of July 23, 2014.

Josephrot,

Perhaps the question would be better asked as should we use Tab Mix Plus or

  • wait for that to be to updated to work with Firefox
  • or use some alternative addon.

Everyone should now be using Firefox 31 the safe, secure fully supported and updated Release version of Firefox.

(With minor exceptions:

  • Some users like like yourself may also be running pre release test versions of Firefox
  • Companies and institutions with their own IT department's may be deploying and supporting special ESR versions of Firefox
    • Possibly a very small minority of individuals may be using ESR portable for comparison and troubleshooting purposes )

Hmm, six of one, and a half dozen of another...

Appears that we users, be we neophytes or pros, or small business or corporates, had better wait FF 31 out IF we MUST have Tab Mix Plus working with FF 31...

...as FF 31 broke a few things IN Tab Mix Plus, and it appears a fix for the benefit of Tab Mix Plus users is being worked on. Hopefully the Tab Mix Beta/pre update will "cure" the FF 31 seen ills...

For many of us, Tab Mix Plus forms a valuable and constructive part of our Firefox 30 and soon 31 experiences.

Is the Tab Mix Plus pre release version working ok with Firefox 31 already ? does it have a release date yet ?

Was there a Release Version update to 0.4.1.4 in June.
http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18731

I note there is a post in the Tab Mix Plus forum apparently by you and it appears there are not any known issues, & that would also imply no expected fix to wait for

I will change the thread title

Otherwise the thread will be attracting questions about any Firefox 31 problems.

TabMix Plus support is over here. http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/

Best to let TMP know that they have a problem.

Just to further advise...

The problems were early last month (June 2014) when a Beta of FF 31 appeared, so as is our usual, downloaded it and installed it. Using both then and now TMP 0.4.1.4 Pre version, immediately noted that TMP stopped working almost entirely, including not saving open tabs when closing FF, etc.

Sooo, after reporting it to both Mozilla and TMP HQ, I fell back to FF 30, and of course things started working again.

Today, 23 July, I noticed that FF 31 is again being code pushed to us -- essentially for a second time -- so I am being more careful this time... and hoping that FF 31 now works correctly with TMP 0.4.1.4 Pre version , and of course that TMP programmers succeeded in making sure TMP works with FF 31... :)...

UPDATE: So far, people are still having problems with FF 31 and TMP 0.4.1.4 Pre version, so we wait a bit longer.

Hi again Joe,

I am not sure others are seeing problems with TMP & Fx31.

I will quote in full the reply in the TMP forum {Yesterday 23rd July http://tmp.garyr.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18776#p65838 }

What problems? " ... after reporting it, I fell back to FF 30 ... " Where did you report your problems?
As i said, if you have problems, click the Troubleshooting link at the top of any page in this forum, read everything there to see how and where to post properly and how to troubleshoot your issues. Again, i've been using Fx31 (beta) w/out any problems. I also don't see any posts about problems with Fx31.

If your problems are only occurring with use of TMP the TMP forum is probably the best place for advice.

You really should now be using Firefox 31 and not Firefox 28.

As a temporary measure and also as a quick and easy method of starting afresh with Firefox, without needing to mess with your main install, ESR portable may be worth a try.

Please try resetting Firefox

When I enable this addon, the close tab button does not appears and the tabs are not clickable. So I disabled this addon. Please fix it. I love this addon so much. >>

I had Tab and Session Restore problems with FF 31, TMP, and Session Restore until an hour ago. I use Windows 8.1 and TMP 0.4.1.4. I posted the problem on The File Hippo page for Firefox 31 update and on Firefox help page. Somebody responded and recommended an update to a TMP Version 0.4.1.4pre.140613a1 . It worked, and I just wanted to let you all know. I hope it helps you too, and good luck. Here's a link to the proper TMP update https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/versions/. Just scroll down the page a little just past the 0.4.1.4 version of TMP, which was for Fiefox 30. I hope this helps....

Everyone with TMP issues I would recommend they you post in the official support forum for TMP (read &). That is the way to get problems recorded for the TMP developers to investigate and fix.

kstenbch Thanks a lot for confirmation that your TMP works for you, although like kiiver (above) & Joe you appear to use pre release versions of TMP. The link you posted broke I will fix that in a minute.

LATEST UPDATE:

Thus, the crossing of fingers may likely now be ceased....:)....
