When I attempt to run JRE on a website I am told it can't run due to my security settings. How can I change this?

I was attempting to use a website to order checks and it had an interactive check view. First I was prompted by FF to install the most current JRE which I did. I then was prompted to activate the applet in the interactive window, again, which I did. I received an error message indicating that due to my security settings, the applet could not be run. I've checked my security and privacy settings and found nothing that would prevent the applet from running. I tried the mozilla's database, but couldn't find anything specific to the JRE version I was running and the rest was a bit confusing. Any help would be appreciated. The version of java: Platform 1.8 and Product 1.8.0_25 which to my knowledge is the most recent version of java.

Thanks for the reply. My problem came after the "allow" button was pressed. It gave the error message, but no real way of figuring it out. I did some research on oracle's site and I stumbled onto this article: http://java.com/en/download/help/jcp_security.xml Apparently with java version 8u20 and higher they removed the security slider and now an exception has to be entered if the site fails the high and very high check (medium has been removed). After I added the exception I was able to get the applet to run. The link to the help page might be a good addition to mozilla's database. Thanks again.
