Thunderbird autocomplete for PC Version 31.4.0 appears to have changed in a very annoying way (also on the latest Mac version)
Hi Support,
I manage email accounts for several users - one of which is my wife. I noticed an autocomplete problem on my version of Thunderbird (on a mac) - and a little while later my wife complained about the same issue on her version (PC version 31.4.0). The problem is that the order in the autocomplete list for the email addresses we have been typing have changed. Instead of the most commonly typed version of an email address which we used to use appearing at the list top, it now lists old email addresses and badly formed email addresses that we have not seen for ages. This is causing havoc as we think we have sent an email to the right person e.g., me@newlocation.com, but instead an old (like 6 years old) one comes up at the top of the list (me@oldlocation.net) or badly formed email addresses ('me>> <me@randomlocation.com). Since the order used to be correct we often hit send too quickly only to find we sent the email to the wrong place or fails. </p>
It seems unlikely that this issue is only confined to us as we have both hit this problem independently on different operating systems after recently upgrading Thunderbird. I hope there is a fix for this either now or in the very near future or I will have to clear out the saved addresses or if it persists - use a different email client.
Cheers Peter

It is a combination of a bug and a misguided change in the search option. The auto complete used to go on "starts with" but now it uses " includes". We keep hearing that they are working on a fix but so far all versions after v31 have this issue. The last general release that worked properly was v24.6. You might want to go back to that version.
