I put a bug report in, but they say its not a bug.

Obviously it is.

It would help more if you posted the Thunderbird info instead of Firefox.

The e-mail address for account no 2 should be franz@absoluteskin.co.za, ISP mail6.bigcommerce.com, POP3, port 995, normal pass word. It is working on my other machine with windows 7. Thunderbird has not been updated to 38.2 on that machine. I cannot even create this e-mail address at all anymore. Just get verification error, username or password incorrect. but have tried the whole week and cannot create, I have also tried to create and email address tammi@absoluteskin.co.za did manage to create it a week ago but not any more and have since deleted it. Incidently you will see gmail accounts, I can create gmail accounts without a problem. and I am using these to forward emails from Bigcommerce to me. Bigcommerce have checked from there side and done numerous tests, and say they no issues from there side and the emails should be working are working! Regards Franz

To diagnose problems with Thunderbird, try one of the following:

• Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
• Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX

If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

I have a similar problem. I'm using Windows 8.1 and updated my Thunderbird to version 38.2, correctly configured with 3 different account. At that point (a couple of days ago) one of them (the Yahoo one) stopped working. The only change in my pc configuration is Thunderbird. However, I tried the two solutions above, and it still not working. I doublechecked the server configuration (that I didn't change) and they seem correct. Finally, I tried to delete the account and recreate it, but nothing changed. Ah, obviously I can open the Yahoo webmail, thus the server is working and the password is correct.

The solution I came up with is going back to the previous version. As none of the fixes they listed worked for me.

I turned off auto updates and I am waiting for the next version to see if this fixes it.

Thank you *very* much. This is not a real solution (note that I absolutely not criticize you!), but I adopted it too. Do you known if it is a recognized problem?

I did put in a bug report. I had a few replies trying to fix the problem but its been a month since I have heard from them.

So I assume based on the lack of support they don't care.

It is recognized that the Yahoo service is flaky, with odd errors, timeouts. Weird messages, re-indexing that sees entire mail boxes re-downloaded.

Basically Yahoo do not care about mail clients. There is no advertising to be sold using one. They make random undocumented and non RFC standards changes to their service and leave it to the users to work out how it functions.

I would suggest you file support ticked with Yahoo. But I have never received a response from them. Ever. Not even when their spam filter made all mail from a mail clients spam. I have no doubt they had the answers to that one. Because it just started working again a week or so latter.
