Why does my firefox open different links with the same main web address in the same tab instead of a new tab?

In my email I get different emails to the same main web site, but with different links to different parts. When I click on one, if I already have a tab with the web page open, the new link I clicked to a different part of the site that I am on, over rides the tab and takes it to the newly opened link, instead of just opening it into a new tab and preserving the first tab with the web page I was already on.

Does this also happen in a new private window on your tablet/mobile device? If so, you can contact the website about this.
