Can't use profile over multiple user accounts on Windows 10

Hello,

I'm using Thunderbird on Windows 10 with two user accounts (one private, one business). I set up all of my email-accounts on the private user account and am now trying to use the same user profile on the other account. I tried copying the profile-folder as described here:

Following these instructions, I copied the contents of the profile folder on my private user account, startet thunderbird with the -ProfileManager command, created a new profile, closed Thunderbird again, pasted the contents into the new profile folder and started Tunderbird again, hoping to see my email-accounts, but Thunderbird still behaves like after a clean installation, opening the setup-wizard, but ignoring the profile settings completely.

I also tried to edit profiles.ini so it shares the profile of the other user account ( see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Sharing_profiles_-_mail ), but without luck.

In both cases, the right profile folder is linked according to Help/Troubleshooting Informationen, but it's settings are completely ignored.

Did I miss something? Any help will be welcome.

Please provide the exact path and name of the profile you created.

Please provide the exact path to where you copied the contents of the existing profile.

Please post the contents of your profiles.ini file.

path and name of profile:

c:/Users/myUserName/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/y0y9zpbl.default

this is also were i copied the content of the existing profile. My profile.ini:

[General] StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0] Name=default IsRelative=1 Path=Profiles/y0y9zpbl.default Default=1

This looks about right.

When you start Thunderbird, and it comes up with the new account wizard, can you check which profile is actually used?

At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Folder > Open Folder.

This will open the currently used profile folder in Windows Explorer. Does it match the one set in profiles.ini?

When you start Thunderbird, are you using the -P option by any chance?

Following your instruction, it opens the correct path, that is the one stated above.

I started Thunderbird with the -ProfileManager option once, to create the profile, but after that no options were used.

I don't know if this is related, but maybe it helps: I tried setting the absolute path for the profile in the ini-file, which resulted in Thunderbird creating a completely new profile and setting the profile0 entry of the profile.ini to that. Curious.
