Once again, after an update, Lightning has disappeared

There are others as well. I have done this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1097206 3x now with TB 38.6. This is the 2nd time lightning calendar has just disappeared and the fix last time (found here: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mozilla.support.calendar/Ds0kNdPDNXY)
did not fix this time around. Since this is a newer version than the original poster's with same issue, is there something else I can try? I use this calendar for business and cannot afford to lose it.
Thunderbird shows lightning as an active/enabled add-on. Each reinstall says next restart it will be installed/active. Each restart gives the same results with no calendar to be found. I am uploading screen shot.

I can understand this is annoying.
Read this thread and try the suggestions. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1105908
I did the 1st step but am unsure which directory to delete. See screen shot. Is it calendar-data folder?
Assuming this is what you're talking about:
- remove the calendar add-on (and delete the calendar add-on directory in your profile directory [1])
That's basically the same step as per https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1097206
Navigate to the extensions subfolder, and locate a folder {e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}. It is the Lightning extension. Delete that folder if it exists.
and
If there is a 'staged' folder delete it as well.

There was only a staged folder; deleted it. But don't understand "pref editor" part. Do I open that "prefs" Jscript file in notepad and make changes, then save? Sorry but this is new to me.
At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button > Options -> Advanced -> Config Editor
Filter for mail.calendar-integration.opt-out and the other pref.
Bear in mind when going through this with christ1 it will be helpful to in some respects heavily document what you see, and in fact even save the original state somewhere.
After you get fixed up, we will want to know what you changed to resolve the issue, and what the original state was so that we can apply that information to finding a fix for other users
Have been keeping screen shots as well as saving a desktop copy of one file I deleted because it worried me it might contain all my old calendar data.
Screen shot here is that I did the 1st part in config editor, but there was no calendar.integration.notify to be found.
Should I proceed with the rest of the list or is the missing pref a stopping point?
Thanks.
Just go ahead.
Ok. This screenshot is for can't delete TB program folder. Keeps saying a file or folder in it is in use. I exited TB, checked task manager and didn't see any services/processes running TB. But I may not know what to look for. Help?
Try to start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled and then try again. - Win10 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/change-startup-settings-in-windows-10#v1h=tab01 - Win8 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode - Win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
Ok. See screen shots for new state of TB showing Events on right of screen and lower r.h. "Today" where this was not there at start of troubleshooting (compare screen shots) and see under tools no calendar. Now I did what I did last time this happened. Select Events and Tasks from top menu and check calendar. So all is well.

I marked this particular post as solved yesterday since it contains the link that solved the issue. Not sure why it didn't stick. But this did indeed solve the issue.
