My Mother's Thunderbird software has stopped working. It can not delete unwanted emails and will not open the email page.

My Mother's version of Thunderbird has become a bit strange. It opens to the "Thunderbird Mail - Inbox" that lists the folders and account settings. When you try to open "read messages" nothing happens. Also it will not allow you to write a new message when you press "Write a New Email". It does download new messages you just can't get at them. Also the file structure is different from my version of Thunderbird on my computer. I tried deleting and reinstalling it with the Windows 7 version software deleting program , but the new Thunderbird software loaded, it came back with all my mother's original setting intact and emails. ????

When you uninstall Thunderbird, that does not remove the Thunderbird Profile folder on the computer which contains all the settings and e-mails that were set up. Then when you install Thunderbird again, it sees that Profile folder, and automatically uses it.

To try to solve your issue, the first thing to try is to Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled".

If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

If this does not help, then try creating a new Create a new profile in Thunderbird for testing to see if it will work any better.
