I had to do a system restore . Now on FF (latest version)I lost all of my bookmarks and don't have anything in the bookmarks restore back. I've tried all the suggestions given using the restore questions/answers. I can't even find the Tools option in the Toolbar and don't know how to figure out how to find that option etc. I didn't save any of the websites when I started using FF (don't remember which version). I'm going round and round trying to figure out what to do. I want my bookmarks back. I hope I don't have to manually re-type each folder and re-type each and every website and then have to do that 'drop' into correct folder. :( I can feel my BP rising...there has got to be a really easy, simple way of doing this. Please help me. Thank you.

It is possible that an older copy of the profiles.ini file got restored. It is always best to backup your Firefox profile folder before doing a system restore because a system restore can restore files (e.g. .ini and .js) in the profile folder as well.

You can check if you have orphaned profiles that aren't registered in profiles.ini and that do not show in the Firefox Profile Manager. You can check that by opening the current profile folder and go up one level.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\

you can recover an orphaned profile via these steps:

  • use the Profile Manager to create a new profile
  • click "Choose Folder" in the Profile Manager
  • browse to the location of a lost profile to recover this profile and register it in the Profile Manager

Note that you should never use "Choose Folder" to specify a folder that already contains files that do not belong to Firefox (i.e. only use "Choose Folder" to recover an orphaned profile).
