I am wondering if your answers for "How to delete address bar suggestions in Windows 10" are actually for Windows 10 because none of them work! I have tried all of them and they all still appear when I click the drop down arrow on the right side of the address bar. I wonder if Mozilla actually has an answer to this problem. Does anyone have any suggestions to solve this problem?

This is about removing a specific file in the profile folder to force Firefox to create a new file. The about:profiles page has a button to go to the profile folder in "AppData\Roaming".

  • you can open "about:" pages via the location/address bar

You need to use the cursor Down key to highlight the entry you want to remove and then press the Delete key. If you hover with the mouse then you see a hover color and not the select color.

Thank you cor-el and Fred for your responses but regrettably neither one of them worked. Simply highlighting the site and pressing delete takes them away for the moment but when I click on the drop down arrow again they are all still there Fred going through your procedures did nothing

I think that I have figured out that the list of sites that appear when I click the dropdown arrow is not history or suggestions but bookmarks. Why do I get a list of bookmarks in the address bar? I want to save them in the bookmark feature but don't want them in the address bar. Any suggestions?

You can remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.

  • keep a backup copy of places.sqlite in case a new places.sqlite database has to be created
  • Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup -> Restore

Note that this will remove all history stored in the file.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

I'm sorry but I don't understand what you are talking about . I am not a computer expert. Is there a simpler way of explain it?
