Members,

Here's my dilemma:

When I type a new word in address bar (a word that I've never search for before or opened any website with) the only option I get is to go to search engine page

I want Firefox to show me complete url of words that I type in address bar, irrespective of that word being searched for in past or not.

For example: I never searched for or opened www.yahoo.com, when I type Yahoo in search bar I get option to go to a search engine. I want Firefox to give me option to go to www.yahoo.com

Also, if I type Yaho (not Yahoo) for the very first time in browser, it should automatically give me options like www.yahoo.com

Is this possible?

Type about:preferences#search<enter> in the address bar. What is your default search engine?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Firefox doesn't have a built-in feature to suggest websites (except when you have no history) or correct typos.

I believe you can still switch Firefox from "search first" to "fixup first." Fixup is an old feature which detects that yaho is not a valid server so tries www.yaho.com. Then you can get server not found if there is no such server, or the site if it exists. Are you interested in trying that?

Mozilla has invested in a German company named Cliqz that is building address bar integration for potentially interesting matches. I haven't tried it myself, but you could take this extension for a spin and see what you think: Cliqz – search directly in your browser.

jscher2000:

Thanks, Cliqz does the job very well and just what I was looking for.

What's intriguing is, even though I tried multiple keywords and spent almost an hour searching for something similar, Cliqz didn't show.
