New Tab, Top Site icons missing the X... How to close them faster like previous versions of FF?

Previous versions offered the same funtions the new version has.

Exept old versions were more versatile, and more efficient to use. Pin/unpin had it's own button in the left click to toggle on and off, X dismiss had it's own button on the right, 1 click, and to open the tab, you just had to click 1 time.

Now I have to spend 30 min every week to close those Top SIte icons by clicking on (...), dragging the mouse down (hopefully I don't miss and click on the other options), and click on [X Dismiss]

When previously I could spam X for like 30 seconds to close a weeks worth of top sites.

I like this, but is there a way to get back the search bar? (although I prefer this) It's kinda nice to search straight off of the new tabs page.

If you mean the search bar it is still in there : https://www.howtogeek.com/333110/how-to-customize-firefox-quantum-and-remove-the-white-space-around-the-title-bar/ or can turn it on by Copy/Paste about:preferences#search in to the Address Bar and Enter.

Actually 57 has X's on all tabs and a Right Click on a Tab gives a Menu. So if missing the X's on yours you have a corrupted File I would think.

uninstall Firefox. Then Delete the Mozilla Firefox Folders in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) Then restart system. Then run Windows Disk Cleanup. (Note: This should be Pinned and run Weekly, If never done below expect 10's of gig's) Then run it again and click the button that says Cleanup System Files. Note: your Firefox Profile is saved. But you should make a back up before you do :

Reinstall with Current Release Firefox 57.0.4 with a Full Version Installer

Please uninstall or update Flash ver 26 as 100+ security issues. Flash Player Version: 28.0.0.126 Current Version https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Step 1: Select Operating System Step 2: Select A Version (Firefox, . . . .) Note: Other software is offered in the download. <Windows Only>

Please let us know if this solved your issue or if need further assistance.

Note that this is about closing tiles on the about:newtab page with the new Activity Stream design enabled.

You can click the Edit button to have the close button appear when you hover a tile. Edit will appear when the cursor is in the tile area.

Note that items you remove that way are stored in the browser.newtabpage.blocked pref that you can find on the about:config page. If you remove a lot of pages then this pref can become quite large.

The addon that MkII suggested is great and solved my almost all of my issues, exept I want to see if I can get back the search bar within this addon.

OR

This. I want to remove without having to hoover, clicking, dragging, and clicking dismiss again. I'm ok with the activity stream, what I don't like is that it remembers everything and having to remove everything is a PITA.

Also for your "note" I saw the string is huge how can I reset it to default so the string isn't that big again?

You can reset the pref via the right-click context menu to the default value. Keep in mind that you see recent visits in the tiles, so if you clear this history then items should disappear as well. Removing item via dismiss may not be the best way to remove items you do not want to see, so maybe experiment with clearing history to see if you can come up with something better. You can also consider to pin items via Add in the Edit menu.
