I am getting the Unresponsive script warning, but before you send me to this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/warning-unresponsive-script?cache=no, please note: I am getting this on the about:newtab page!! It's not a random webpage from a random website, it's from Firefox's own about:newtab page (The search and topsites page). This is Mozilla's own code.

I get this if I let the browser just site there for say 15-ish minutes. When I come back to the browser, it shows me this warning.

Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

Hi, before you use Refresh, I would try Safe Mode in case one of your add-ons is incompatible with FF58 that you seem to be using.

Hold down the Shift key when you start Firefox to start in Safe Mode. More - Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If it works in Safe Mode, disable any theme and add-ons you have - Add-ons Manager (Ctrl+Shift+A) > Themes/Extensions and restart Firefox; then if it's OK, re-enable them one by one until you find the culprit. You may need to restart Firefox after enabling some add-ons.

If your question is resolved by this or another answer, please take a minute to let us know. Thank you!
