Hey there,

I'm in a situation... I booted my laptop.. and then I came to know that I don't remember my mozilla account password!!

Now If I try to use forgotten pw its says you will loose all your bookmarks and saved passwords data in the process.!

One thing is I have my account logged-in in my mobile browser.

So is there any way to look up my password ? and use it to log-in to laptop?

I need those bookmarks and those many passwords that I have saved in it.

You can try the following, in hopes that you saved your password on your computer:

  1. Go to the Firefox Accounts page on your laptop
  2. Press the green lock icon in the Firefox address bar
  3. Click the right arrow button in that popup
  4. Click More Information
  5. Go to the Security tab
  6. Click the View Saved Passwords button
  7. If you see a username listed, click the Show Passwords button

This will show your password in plain text that you can read. This only works if you have saved the password to your laptop, which I'm not sure you have.

I should point out as well that resetting your Firefox account password does not remove your actual bookmarks. This simply deletes the bookmarks data that is saved on the Mozilla servers. Your bookmarks will remain on your mobile device and laptop. When you sign back into Firefox Sync after resetting your password, your bookmarks from your mobile device should then be transferred back to the Mozilla servers.

It's just a security feature so that if someone successfully resets your password, they won't be able to download your sync data, which may contain personal information.

So what about saved log-in data ?

and what if after resetting password... In mobile browser asks for me to log-in because password has been changed ? It might just delete my sync data right ?

Correct. Please follow the directions above and if that does not work, reset the password.

Yes considering the above directions only I'm asking... if I reset... then that process would end up asking me to re log-in in mobile and I might lose book marks and saved passwords.

Doing a reset of the Firefox Account password will clear your data from the Sync server, but it won't clear your data on any of the devices that are connected to that Firefox Account. So, no, that won't cause you to lose your Firefox data from your mobile device.

So data will be cleared in Sync Server? that's my concern here...

In mobile browser what ever bookmarks and saved passwords that I'm able see now Is because of those data were stored in server...

If I reset my password and logged-in on my laptop with new pw... from where do I get those previous bookmarks data ? because to say it will be synced from mobile.. mobile browser is just showing data from server isn't it ? or does it save those data offline ? so then its possible that it transfer those data to server.. because I request sync process from my laptop browser.

Your data is stored on the Firefox Sync server. This is so that if you log into a new device, your data is saved online so it can be transferred. Also, if you add a new bookmark on your device, that's added to the data on the server so that the next time one of your other devices logs on, it can compare the bookmarks it has to the bookmarks on the sync server and add the new ones that you have added.

Once your data is downloaded by your device from the sync server, it's saved to your device permanently. That means that if you disconnect sync, those bookmarks and other data will remain on your device. Your device doesn't need a constant connection to the Firefox Sync service in order to see the data that has already been synced.
