Hello,

With the newer versions of Firefox and the push to 64-bit, will there be any Bookmark thumbnail add-on, such as ViewMarks, available again? I have tried to contact Michael Koch, developer of ViewMarks. But, he never responded to my emails. I have to assume that his English is not the best, or he has given up on that Add-on after the recent Firefox updates/changes. I have tried the other add-ons claiming they do the same thing, but they just don't cut it. ViewMarks was about the closest thing to the Thumbnail view in Windows Explorer before Microsoft did away with it.

I was going to install a older version of Firefox and install the ViewMarks add-on for the interim, until someone created a new compatible add-on, especially for 64-bit. Unfortunately, the instructions to do so were not clear and no one would clarify those instructions where they were vague.

Thanks, Chris Zanowick

ViewMarks hasn't been updated in 3 years, so I imagine that the developer abandoned it sometime ago. I wouldn't wait around for a replacement from them.

However, Firefox will be including native bookmark thumbnail functionality in a future version, so look forward to that.

Hi Tyler,

Thanks for the quick response. Looks like the Developer might have abandoned a few other things based on his website. Oh,… wait,…looks like he is doing a revamping of his www.codepad.de website where he showcased his products. Only a home page though, format is different. You're right. Can't hold my breath for that one.

Too bad, ViewMarks was a very nice add-on. Tried to donate money in hopes he would keep it going. He never replied with a method to send the donation. ViewMarks had some things missing that would have been a big improvement, like management functions similar to system file/folder management. However, I was okay with the way the last version worked. Would still like to get an older version of Firefox running, so I can use it a little bit longer.

Just tried the Quick Dial add-on, but it has some bugs. The Quick Dial page would not display all bookmarks in the folder for some reason. It was close but no cigar.

That is good to hear Mozilla will be introducing a thumbnail feature. Any idea of a time frame of it being available? Assume it will integrate fairly well into the browser's bookmarks.

Thanks, Chris Zanowick

You should not use old versions of Firefox as they have known security issues that have been fixed in new versions.

I think the bookmark image should be live by the end of the year.

The security risks running an older version is the other reason why I haven't put any effort into doing it. I would have to know exactly what the risks are and determine if I can compensate with protection elsewhere. Guess, I just be better off to just wait with the end of the year right around the corner.

Hi Tyler,

Has there been any update on the bookmark image feature in Firefox? Is Mozilla still on track to roll that out by the end of the year? Or, has it already and I just didn't know about it?

I see the Bookmark function placing a thumbnail in the bookmark options window in the uploaded image. Is this part of the implementation of that? I don't recall those thumbnails appearing in that Bookmark window until recently.

Thanks.
