I tried to set up an email account on Thunderbird after just installing it. I expected it to allow me to set up a new account but instead it asked me to set up an existing account. Why? I tried entering another email address and password which are existing on my GMail, and it first said "Configuration found in Mozilla ISP database". But when I clicked "Done", it said "Configuration could not be verified. Is the user name or password incorrect?" No, they are not incorrect. What has gone wrong?

Probably your anti virus program. I recently set up Thunderbird on a system with Norton anti virus and had to disable email scanning and their "SONAR" before the Thunderbird account wizard actually ran to completion.
