I received a document by email to my other username. I tried to open it, but it was malicious and all my correspondents began to receive the same email message, but now by my username, as if I had sent it, until Thunderbird crashed. Now I cannot receive nor send email messages by that username. Its password no longer works. Please help. Mac OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.6, Thunderbird 60.4.0, IMAP Mail Server, imap.aol.com.

Never open anything because you are curious. Do not click on links if you are not 100% certain what you are doing - hover over them first to see the real link info described in the Status bar. Thunderbird by default does not allow showing remote content. It is advisable you do not permit remote content.

  • Delete the email.
  • Right click on folder and select 'Compact'
  • Ext Thunderbird and all other programs.
  • Start computer in Safe Mode
  • Scan computer.

Once scan is complete... Start computer as normal You need to gain access to your aol webmail account and I advise you change the password. It is possible aol have put a temporary block because your account has sent huge numbers of emails.

Once you have changed the password in webmail account, then change the one stored in thunderbird.
