Windows 10 (64 bit) Thunderbird 60.0b7 (64 bit) Just had an automatic Thunderbird email update. There was an "Option" to insure that my sent email was received at the required location. You would send a "ping" informing you, - Email received - Email "not" received When it comes to very important email's, this tool was a great asset. Why was this very important (secure) "Option" removed? Thanks

I guess I missed where you taught us how to ping an email message. Since email messages do not have an IP address and you can only ping an IP address or a domain name that resolves to an IP address you must possess some real magic.

Fact: (#1) An IP address (#) reveals your location, city, region and country..

Fact: (#2) Email ping software does not search for an IP address..

Fact: (#3) Email ping software, pings directly to a SMTP server which then looks for the MX (Mail Exchange) records of the email recipient’s domain..

Fact: (#4) Email ping software will indicate if the email was "received" or "not received"..

Fact: (#5) Need more proof.. How to Verify an Email Address? .. (Feb 20, 2018) .. https://www.labnol.org/software/verify-email-address/18220/

Fact: (#6) An Example of a Thunderbird Return Receipt: The original message was received at Wed, 6 Feb 2019 14:40:40 GMT from ????.????.??a [00.0.000.00]

The following addresses had successful delivery notifications -----

<*******@gmail.com> (relayed to non-DSN-aware mailer) <*******@t-online.de> (relayed to non-DSN-aware mailer)

Again. thanks to Matt, for reminding me to take my medication..

Well you go your own way, File bug in the wrong place, just never complain if you never get an answer. There are literally hundreds of sub projects of Thunderbird hosted on github, but it is not the place to file a bug. Nor were they the "developers" that started Thunderbird.

So what are you really saying, that the automatic 6 weekly update has occurred in the middle of this discussion and the web page now offers a later version? Or are you saying the GB locale is offering an earlier version? If so it is not now. See https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/ for all current localized versions. Seriously, if your carrying on about a release that intersected your topic. I have better things to do.

There is an archive of Thunderbird versions here it has every release version ever made available, so go back to a version you like if the current one offends your sensibilities.

But I do caution against it, old versions of software in production are not a good idea from a security standpoint.

My problem here is that I have exactly no idea what any of the things your are posting mean or what it is you are hoping to communicate, because it might as well be written in Chinese for the meaning I am able to extract.

At first I had to teach you how to ping an email for confirmation..

You posted a lengthy treatise on ping with all sorts of completely irrelevant facts, a significant number of which were simply factually wrong. So you hopefully can appreciate that others do not share your view of what ping does, please read the entry level document on ping hosted at wikipedia.

While I understand that colloquially the term ping has many, many meanings and one of those is "get back to you".

In reading that topic you posted, the only reference I see to ping in in the heading. The instructions are all about using telnet and nslookup command line utilities. There is no use of the ping utility bat all. Perhaps you might ask the author to correct his heading to "confirm an email address using command line utilities nslookup and telnet". That would be more useful that continuing to insist we use the term you have chosen to substitute for two different things. A return receipt and a delivery status notification.

In this circumstance please stop trying to prove that is is something it is not technically. It simply muddies the waters further.

You keep on about some fictional new format but really I have no idea at all what you are talking about. The layout of the main write window has changed very very little in the past decade, and what has changed is basically all accessed from the toolbar, not the menu.

After spending another hour trying to decipher what this thread is about, I wonder if all this is about the fact the addon return-receipt-toolbar-button does not work in Thunderbird 60. If that is the case I suggest you contact the author of the add-on.

Not sure if I want to ask how you came to that conclusion.

Mozilla is the one that started the email client Thunderbird. https://blog.mozilla.org/thunderbird/2017/05/thunderbirds-future-home/

As for filing tracking reports on issues, features, enhancements, actual bugs and other things in relation to Thunderbird that is still done in the multi-purpose general issues tracker bugzilla.mozilla.org

As you can see there is a section for Thunderbird on this page. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi

My Final Conclusion;

I came here to get help trying to find where "Read Receipt" (email received confirmation) [ping] using the new versions of Mozilla Thunderbird (60.5.2).. Instead of getting help, it looked more like everyone was trying to disprove my theory on how Thunderbird "Read Receipt" actually functions.. I highly suggest that you fully read everything and see what Thunderbird has now really become..

  1. 3 A blog link I posted to help educate You on showing that Mozilla is the company the developed Thunderbird and how it has been changing since in last while. For example you stated three times that Github was somehow involved in the start of Thunderbird. Oh and there is no mention of Github on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Thunderbird
  1. 4 And... as the Blog link for example explains to what everybody else knows.
  1. 5 All of the regulars here are very well aware of https://www.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/all/ as the link used to be https://mozilla.org/thunderbird/all.html before.
  1. 6 Again all of the regulars here are very well aware of say http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/ and http://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/ etc. The Oct-2015 dates on the older versions listed in above links is not related to the dates they were released or such as this was due to a move or something with Thunderbird, Firefox SeaMonkey and other files etc at the time.

Not sure if intentional or a typo but the Thunderbird 6.0 (six point zero) you mentioned is a rather old version from August 16, 2011. The 5.0 (five point zero) version you mentioned earlier is from June 28, 2011.

https://www.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/releases/

  1. 8 ans #9 are you trying to say en-GB is a recent locale addition?. The en-GB Thunderbird locales has existed since say Thunderbird 1.5 which was Released way back in early 2006.
  1. 10 The issue in that case was that Thunderbird user was using a third-party package build of Thunderbird from Ubuntu. Ubuntu chose to keep the Lightning as a separate package to install instead of being bundled like the official builds of Thunderbird. Issue is mentioned in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/calendar-updates-issues-thunderbird

Btw way if you see a b# on end of a Thunderbird version then that means it was a build on the Beta channel meant more for QA and Testers in mind. Release < Beta < Nightly (Daily).

It's like you are a recent Thunderbird user that read a book about the Thunderbird email client sometime back and now you think are an expert on the history of Thunderbird.

Anyways this has gone on far enough with you only educating us on what you think the Thunderbird history is like.
