Currently using Thunderbird 68.8 on Linux Mint 20 beta, however this has been going on for years.

I have IMAP accounts set up from four different providers (three of which are very well known, the last is my own personal mail server), and almost every time I open my inbox for the first time each day Thunderbird shows two copies of every email.

I can clear the duplicates by doing File -- Compact.

It only happens on Thunderbird. I've installed Evolution and set the same accounts up and there are no duplicates.

In case it matters, I'm using the unified inbox (managing mail any other way would be very counter-productive).

I've deleted my Thunderbird profile and recreated it multiple times, going as far as to completely format the entire disk and start from scratch, and I've upgraded my PC, changing all the hardware, at least twice since it first started happening, yet no matter what I try the duplicates always come back.

As I said I've been putting up with this for years, but it's clearly a bug.

Hello, same problem here, although it shows up in a different and weird way. I have Thunderbird Portable 68.9, and Windows 7, POP3. I received regularly a SPAM email email from an Indian company trying to sell SEO services. When I receive it, thunderbird gets very slow, and only download duplicates of that email. I have tried the popstate fix http://kb.mozillazine.org/Repeatably_downloading_the_same_messages but it did not work. It only happen when I receive that particular message, which does not have any virus on it.

The only fix is to delete the message on the server using the webmail, and then rebuild the popstate.

I thought, maybe the wording of the SPAM email sends the baesyan filter in overdrive, but on another computer, win10, spam filter active, I receive the same email but no issue whatsoever.

Thanks, but I think your problem may be different.

Mine doesn't repeatedly download the same email, it just duplicates every email in the unified inbox. I've seen it in other folders too, including the Spam folder.

I can clear the duplicates using the Compact Folder option in the File menu but shouldn't have to keep doing this.
