Hi,

The right-click context menu has a "open image in new tab" option with a handy keyboard shortcut, however using it one goes in to the new tab with the opened image. Is there any way to use the "open image in new tab" but staying in the current tab?

Thanks.

This is a problem for me too. At first I thought it could be something caused by one of my add-ons, but after running Firefox in safe mode the issue continues. Please fix this. It's really annoying.

You will have to use a workaround and use "Copy Link" to copy the URL to the clipboard and paste the link in the location bar if you want to open the image in the current tab.

No. The problem is not to open the images in the same tab; It is to open a bunch of images linked in tab A to tabs B, C, D, ... but staying in tab A. As it is now, after opening the first image in tab B, one has return to tab A to open the second image in tab C, then return to tab A to open a third image in tab D, then return to tab A... It should be: open the first image in tab B, and staying in tab A to open all other images. The focus should stay in tab A.

Clearer now?

To open several images or other links in another tab but also staying in the same tab, I will suggest trying by pressing control and click on the image or link. In this way, the new links will open up but you will remain on the same tab.

I am aware of that, but that only works if the image is a link.

On the top of the page, just above the thread title, there is Firefox logo that doesnt have a link. If you right click on it an press "i" the logo image will open in a new tab but you are taken to that new tab. What I am after is a solution to, after pressing i, stay in this page.

It is possible to open a link you paste in the location bar in a new background tab, either via Alt+Shift+Enter or hold Ctrl and Shift and click the Go arrow (if this icon in hidden then edit the URL by appending a character and removing it). With the context menu entry you can only open the image in a new foreground tab.

So, no way to open an image in a background tab using the right menu context keyboard shortcut? Just weird that it defaults to foreground tab.

Actually, holding Ctrl + Shift WHILE using the right click context menu works. Holding Shift while doing it opens it in a new window But holding Ctrl Shift opens it in a new tab while STAYING in the original tab that you're currently browsing.

Ctrl+Shift and clicking on the context menu does work. However the keyboard shorcut is way far to be pratical (on my setup its "i"), and using it opens the screenshot recorder of Radeon software.

Would be really nice for Mozilla to change the default behaviour from foreground to background tab.

Anyway, have resorted to an addon (sadly, no keyboard shortcut...): https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/open-image-in-a-new-tab/

There is a similar add-on that is under more active/recent development and has a help site on Github, so I posted a new issue about adding an access/accelerator key there:

https://github.com/MethodGrab/firefox-open-image-in-new-tab/issues/13

On the Add-ons site (it doesn't require broad permissions, so even if it currently works the same as the one you're using, I would prefer this one):

Changed the addon and appreciate the request made in github.

From Firefox v90 list of changes: - Open Image in New Tab loads the media in a background tab now.
