I made a post the other week about issues I was having with Firefox & YouTube.

Having put the browser in safe mode I discovered that it was my ad blocker/s. That said, I had notice Firefox lagging or loading hard on video sites, not just YouTube as well as some applets on other sites. And having experimented with various ad blockers and video sites as well as my own blogs, I find that I am not having these problems with ad blockers in Chrome or Edge, but only Firefox, so much so, that most of these sites are entirely unusable unless I disable the ad blocker/s in Firefox.

Frankly, I've been noticing it for some time, but as of the other week they have nearly rendered the browser unusable, or the ad blocker/s unusable in Firefox on said sites. I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the add-ons, from the Mozilla site, to no real avail.

It is not only annoying but very frustrating and I am about to give up, on the browser altogether. I am not having these problems with the same ad blocker/s in Chrome.

I've spent nearly two weeks on this and it hasn't gotten better.

Then perhaps Mozilla developers should remove these add-ons from their site. I've been using Ad Block Plus for years without incident, and more recently one called simply Ad Block, but I generally just use Ad Block Plus. And even though sites like YouTube are consistently becoming more intrusive--I am not having these issues with either of these ad blockers in Chrome or the Edge browser.

I have seen similar reports. I suggest replacing your ad-blockers with uBlock Origin.

I really wanted this add on to work, but it didn't happen. I even disabled the one in Chrome and replaced it with uBlock Origin and it works fine and I can still surf (using YouTube as the example) freely.

Although Firefox seemed to always be a little sluggish, this really started happening shortly after an update. I had just recently made a post concering the drop-down feature with the download manager. And then just the next week YouTube started l ocking down.

Be that as it may, I understand the ad blocker I was using may have taken and update also--but all of them? While YouTube still works with the ad blockers in Chrome, I simply feel there is a conflict between the ad blocker and Firefox.

I share your concern and I'm also experiencing exactly the same problem. I'm sadly about to uninstall Firefox for good and switch to another browser. It's sad because I've been using Firefox for 15 years.

Thannk you for posting, at least I know it's not just me.

I've been using Firefox since way back when Netscape ended. Being visually handicapped and I still feel Firefox is the most handicap accessible browser for me, however, this is not the browser it used to be. There has been a lot of over-development over the years, in my humble opinion, and the browser carries years of unnecessary baggage.

That, I think, is the real issue here.

Be that as it may, there is still a conflict with the Firefox browser and several different ad blocking add on's which seemingly work with Chrome while causing conflicts on web sties in Firefox. Again, I will reiterate that these issues began happening shortly after a Firefox update.

To ensure I am reading this correctly, you are using multiple content (ad) blockers? If so, this is not at all a recommended way to use Firefox. Multiple content blockers running at the same time will be effectively fighting against each other to remove the content as fast as they can.

It is suggested to use as few add-ons as possible, as each add-on adds to the amount of CPU cycles and memory used when loading and using pages. Each add-on also is another potential security hole, to a privileged access level.

My advice is for you to remove all content blockers and replace them with only uBlock Origin, as terry21 suggested.

As said before, fewer extensions is better than more.

Also, on a separate note, if you want a browser similar to Netscape, look at Seamonkey. It is a continuation of the original Mozilla browser, developed by the community.

To be clear, I only use one ad blocker, but I have tried several, including uBlock Origin which was suggested in an earlier post, which i replaced the Ad Block Plus with.

I actually use very few add on's, except for Toggle Site Colors & Styus which I use because I'm visually handicapped, but I also use Pop-up Blocker Ultimate because I find whatever included in the browser/s, if there is one at all, to be completely useless.

I did run the browser in safe mode and concluded the issue was with the ad blocker by removing and replacing add ons.

Be that as it may, they all work fine in Chrome.

I have never heard of Seamonkey, but honestly, I am not necessarily looking for another browser as I'm having enough trouble with the one I have. And who doesn't believe Google;s & Microsoft's influence couldn't, or wouldn't, put every other browser on the web unusable.

Noticed that your message referring to AdBlocker Ultimate was deleted or is in moderation. Whatever the case, this extension seems to be an effective one. The only things I see is that it may be sparse when it comes to updates (last one was Jan 14) and that the configuration is limited.

I keep going back to the Ad Block Plus, because I have been using it for a long time. But right now I have left the uBlock Origin installed.

It's been frustrating, and I can't say that it has trust YouTube, they are constantly changing their stuff up. However, I am experiencing similar, if not other issues with Firefox on other sites, which makes me suspicious of everything overall.

I haven't been able to log into my FedEx & UPS accounts in Firefox, support has told me to use Chrome instead. Similar problems with my bank. Hence my suspicions in my prior post.

I'm sorry. I simply assumed since I am posting here that everyone knew I was having issues with the Firefox browser. Moreover, since I stated that this started after a recent update, I guess I figured most people would realize that I was using the most current, up-to-date version of Firefox that there was.

It goes without saying that I prefer older versions of Firefox since I did state that current versions are over-developed and carry a lot of baggage, which I believe is the cause of most bugs rather than the cure.

Hello! I don't know if you're still looking for solutions but you could try: Turn-on Ublock Origin> Go to Ublock's dashboard/configuration page> Click Filter lists on the top> Click the check-box next to Ignore generic cosmetic filters

I just wanted to report that there has been no resolution to this problem.

I have tried everything that has been suggest and Firefox still hangs up on YouTube, some other video sites and some applets.

I have tried several of the ad blockers, and I don’t know that I can blame them except to say how they are working with the Firefox browser. For the last week, and especially most video sites like YouTube, the page simply doesn’t want to load and I get an error message saying I am offline when clearly I am not. I might blame some of this on YouTube, and yet—using the same ad blockers in Chrome the pages load just fine.

That said, the only clear resolution seems to be not to use Firefox on YouTube and other video sites, but especially YouTube. It is simply doesn’t want to load pages on this site for any real amount of time. Or—quit using the browser altogether and switch to Chrome. Which I am sure is exactly what Google would like.

That said, if Mozilla can ever fix this bug—drop me a note. As I said, although it was already being quirky, it became completely dysfunctional after a recent update to the browser this month, specifically the one, though I'm not blaming this particular action, that changed the download manager. Until them… I will be moving my business over to Chrome.

I understand your concern. Because we can not recreate this issue, there is very low likelihood of it magically being "fixed." If you are annoyed with chrome and want an old version of firefox, use ESR; you can find more info at Switch to Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) for personal use
