I stopped using a different webmail service to switch over to Google workspace. I was told to download Thunderbird so that I can export all of my previous email history to an external hard drive. Now I'm all set up in Google Workspace, how can I import the history and data that's in my external hard drive into my gmail? Should I import them back to Thunderbird then transfer it over to gmail?

I suggest you refer to whom ever make the original suggestion as to the next steps.

Uploading IMAP mail to google is fraught with issues and complete loss is not unheard of. Workspace should have some for of import feature from a previous mail server or archive.
