Importing labels with Google Contacts

I have all my contacts in Google Contacts organized with labels. But when I sync them to Thunderbird, the labels are gone and its just one list of 578 contacts.

How can I organize my contacts so that the categories (or labels) show up on both Google Contacts and in Thunderbird?
