When I open up Mozilla Thunderbird, at the bottom of my screen I see this message: diane@centerstage.com: downloading message 135 of 5150 in In box. This is keeping me from actually clicking on an email in my inbox to respond to. How do I get this download to stop? My emails come in instantly so why am I getting downloading all these messages when I know that I'm not getting these amount of emails into my inbox?

For some reason the mail server has notified Thunderbird that what is has is not in sync, so the two are validating the status of each mail. The message while implying a full download generally is not that unless there is a genuine loss of synchronization.

Generally it is best to just let those things use the few minutes to fix themselves.
