Clicking on "news" on Firefox homepage gives me news articles from Cnanda and I can't find a setting to default to U.S. articles.

Are you in the US? Google "reads" the IP address of your connection and supplies the appropriate content, so Google probably thinks you are in Canada.

I don't know if that support page is just for searches or if it covers "news", too.
