which is essentially the same as if you just change your home page

You might want to consider using a simpler home page, ideally one that is on your local drive, so you know Firefox is working even if you don't have a connection.

But your choice is much better than choosing a home page that just interfaces with a search site, when there is a builtin toolbar that can bring up any search that you care to add an engine for.
