Ever since the latest update to Firefox, when I click on a website suggested by Google, I get a "jump" to some unrelated commercial site. How do I prevent this?

I search something on Google, let's say The Metropolitan Museum of Art, a list of options appears. I click on the Met's website. But what comes up is something entirely different, one of those sites which list a bunch of totally unrelated stuff. A scam site, I would call it. Before this site appears, I see the word "Jump" in the address bar.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Thanks, but these are all for Windows. I have a Mac, OS 10.5.8. Are there similar malware programs for my machine?
