My internet is very unstable and I will lose connection every now and then for 1-15 seconds. What annoys me greatly is that when I download large files, like 1gb, if my internet goes temporarily down during downloading, firefox thinks the file download is finished and there is no way for me to continue the download and I have to start again.

  • Move the old .part partial download and the final file without the .part that has size 0 to another location.
  • Start a new download and pause it, don't close Firefox.
  • Copy the two files (.part and 0 byte final) that you moved above back to the download location to replace the new files that were created.
  • Resume the download in Firefox.

As I said, Firefox thinks the download is finished. There are no .part files after that. Only the final (incomplete) file.

What file sizes do you see reported for a selected file in the download manager if you run this script in the Firefox > Web Developer > Error Console?

Is maxBytes the same as currBytes if you hover the File type icon of a file entry in the DM?

See:

Total Time: 0 sec. Curr Bytes: 24379948 bytes(not OK) Max Bytes: 1073741824 bytes Download speed: Infinity KB/sec

(3% done) Total Time: 0 sec. Curr Bytes: 35935584 bytes(not OK) Max Bytes: 1073741824 bytes Download speed: Infinity KB/sec

DM 48Mb Curr Bytes: 49284492 bytes(not OK) Max Bytes: 1073741824 bytes Download speed: Infinity KB/sec

However, as I said, this happens when my internet suddenly goes off for a few seconds. After connection starts working again, firefox finishes the file and .part goes away.

Edit. It happened. Nothing on error console.

Use IDM(Internet Download Manager) to download your files. It supports resume of interrupted downloads due to lost internet connections.

Go to http://internetdownloadmanager.com for more information.
