I have Firefox 8.0 running on Windows 7.

For some reason after I upgraded to FF 8.0 when I close Firefox it will not end the process (cleanly close). In other words, if I close FF it will close on the screen but when I try to start it again, I get the message "Firefox is already running..." So I have have to go into Windows Task Manager to end the process. It is very annoying. I have already disabled the the add-ons but this did not help. Also, I can not get into FF safe mode because in order to do that, FF has to have a clean shut down but as it won't I can't get into FF safe mode. Please help!

You should still be able to start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode by holding down the shift key as you start it, or using a run/command line

This problem arose after I upgraded to 3.6. This was an upgrade in Linux Mint 10. I tried removing, and reinstalling through synaptic package manager. After the last removal I did a search for Firefox. I found about 15 or 20 instances of Firefox related files still on the system. I selected all of the files and then hit delete. You will see that some of the files will not delete. I then rebooted, opened synaptic and did a reinstall of Firefox. I have my fingers crossed but with two days and several startups and shutdown, the shutdown problem seems solved. Thanks for an excellent program.

Well my reinstall solution did not work after all. Firefox process fails to shut down. It seems that Firefox version 8 is out but Mint is still working with version 3+. I plan to test Ubuntu to see if the problem exists there. Still not solved.

I note your system details aside mention Windows, as did your Original Post, as you are now mentioning Linux, & Ubuntu I guess you are using a Wubi install of linux running within Windows. If you do read KB articles note they have a selector on them and you will be able to read the Linux versions if necessary.
