When I opened Firefox, I was taken to the Firefox Welcome Page and all bookmarks, history, etc was gone? What happened and can I recover the lost bookmarks, history, etc?how do I
It seems that Firefox and all contents were deleted and then Firefox was reinstalled as a completely new program. My other browsers (Internet Explorer and Google Chrom) were not changed.
Everything was OK when I closed down Firefox last night about 11 pm and I left the computer on.

A possible cause for lost bookmarks and history is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
You can restore the bookmarks, but getting the history back is not possible if you need to delete places.sqlite to recover from that.
-> Determining if Firefox has created a new profile
Check and tell if its working.
Dear Cor-el and mha007,
Thanks for the the suggestions. They finally led me to the source of the problem. It took a long time for me to find the solution because I could only work on it for short intervals.
Firefox had indeed created a new profile and my old profile seemed to have been deleted because it did not show up in the Profile Manager no matter how I opened the profile manager *(i.e., from Firefox or from my Computer).
I finally determined that my old profile had not actually been deleted, but rather something had happened to it (a corrupted file?) that made it invisible to Firefox.
I tried every trick I knew to get Firefox to recognize my old profile without success, including deleting the new profile, and then uninstalling and re-installing Firefox, and trying System Restore.
I finally fixed the problem using the Recovering Important Data from an Old Profile procedure described in Firefox Help. That is, I let Firefox create a new profile and then used copy and paste to move the important Firefox files (identified in the Copying Files Between Profile Folders described in Mozilla Help) from the old profile to the new one and then opened Firefox.
NOTE - I accessed my old profile by opening My Computer and then going down the folder/file hierarchy step by step to get to my old profile. When I have time I will transfer some of the other files I want in small batches in case a corrupted file was the source of problem.
Thanks again,
mitcbill
