I want the website icon, not the Firefox icon on my desktop.
When I create a shortcut on my desktop I get the Firefox icon, not the website icon, which is the icon I want for easy and quick identification. How can I EASILY get rid of the Firefox icon and replace it with the website icon?

Please do not dig up old threads about this issue.
You have read that Firefox doesn't do that and that you need to change the icon of the default browser that such a link gets to the website's favicon yourself if you are not satisfied with the default icon. You have to change the icon via the Properties of the shortcut. You can usually save the favicon via the "Firefox/Tools > Page Info > Media" window.
kimhackl - I have adduced the following from cor-el's reply to your question. I hope that it helps:
On the FireFox menu bar, click on TOOLS / PAGE INFO / MEDIA / select (high light) the ICON line / SAVE AS / in the address bar (near the top of the page) NAVIGATE TO YOUR DESIRED LOCATION FOR THE ICON (mine is 'Desktop') / in the File Name Box (near the bottom of the page) type in any name you want, followed by .ICO / SAVE
Good luck
